climate of Bhutan

Bhutan's climate is diverse due to dramatic variations in elevation. The Duars Plain tends to be hot and humid; the Lesser Himalaya region is often cooler; while the areas in the Greater Himalayas are closest to that of alpine tundra.

The southern part of the country at the foothills of the Himalayas has a subtropical climate. The central part with valleys tends to have cool winters and hot summers, while the northern part closest to the alpines with snow-capped mountains is cold even in summer. There are four seasons in Bhutan.

October to December is the ideal time to visit Bhutan as the air is clear and fresh with sunny skies. January and February are colder, but from then until April the climate remains dry and pleasant and in late spring the famous rhododendrons bloom spectacularly, flooding the valleys with colour.
